3 Players of Note:
1) Laurent Brossoit G Edmonton - Best game of the year. Wasn't busy early, but really had to battle late to preserve the shutout. He was really square to the puck all night, lateral movement was excellent and had to use all of his limbs to keep the puck out of the net late. Its rare to keep Etem and Shinkaruk scoreless on a net, but Brossoit and the Oil Kings defense held strong. Brossoit seems to be finding his stride now as with the Oil Kings he is playing a heavy workload.
2) Tyler Bunz G Medicine Hat - Bunz was a smidge off tonight, but really battled hard to keep his team in it, especially early when the Oil Kings came out and blitzed the Tigers. Bunz, for my money, is still the leader in being Team Canada's WJHC starting goaltender. He looks mentally tired right now, something he will need to sharpen up on if he gets Team Canada role, because then the pressure will be ramped up ten fold playing in front of his home clubs fans and the world. Should be interesting to see if Bunz can ramp up his play as the tournament gets closer.
3) Dylan Wruck LW Edmonton - Wruck, much like Brossoit, had his best game of the year. He seemed to be able to find a seem that got him some clean looks at Bunz. He scored on one of those chances. Wruck is a diminutive, opportunistic type player. Its good to see some of those chances go in tonight after starting off slow this year. I have always had high hopes for this kid after I had the Oilers drafting him in the 4th round last year in a mock draft. Good to see him come around and start cashing in more frequently.
